NBA Sponsors Two Students to the 2021 PFEW Summer Business Program

The NBA provided two full scholarships to Council Rock North High School students to attend the PFEW five week-long business programs for high school students held this summer; the program was put on hold on 2020 due to the pandemic.

Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) is a one-of-a-kind summer program that offers in-coming high school juniors & seniors a unique and challenging opportunity to see what it is like to run their own business and learn about private enterprise.  This unique and challenging program provides a hands-on opportunity to learn about our free enterprise system.  This program opens doors for high school sophomores and juniors to learn what it takes to succeed in our fast-paced world filled with endless changes and challenges.

This correspondence was received from the VP of Marketing and Development of the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education (PFEW):

Beyond belief.  Honestly, those are the only words that can possibly describe what is happening here in Williamsport this summer, and it’s all because of you. The impact you’ve made on these students is perhaps the most powerful in our history.  Here’s an excerpt from a letter a Week 1 student wrote to her sponsorship donor:
“My social skills suffered as a result of being quarantined last year, and I wondered if I would ever get them back.  But PFEW has proven to me that I can put myself out there.  I don’t have to be afraid to be myself.  Attending PFEW has given me a confidence that I never thought was possible.  This camp made me realize that I am indeed a leader and I can make decisions. I firmly believe that if I had not attended PFEW, I would struggle in college.  This week has prepared me for college (more) than any guidance counselor ever has and ever will.”

That’s what you’ve done.   Thank you.

Below is a letter received from a student sponsored to the PFEW summer program in 2019 (there was no program in 2020).
Dear Mr William Sheffer,
My name is Noah Wolfenson, and I am so thankful that you gave me this opportunity to learn about business and management.  Up to this point, I had a vague inkling that business was for me.  But, after my experience at PFEW, I know that business is in my blood.  I have a new found love and passion, and none of that would be possible without you.  Here at PFEW, I learned how much actually goes into business and it’s potential success.  I heard so many words and terms that I didn’t now existed, and now I have them down and I can talk fluently and professionally about business with my parents or other adults.

Over the course of only one week, I had the opportunity to meet people from large and small companies from throughout the state.  The speakers taught me to more about business than my whole education up to this point.  On top of the business talks,  there were many motivational speakers who allowed me to truly reflect and thinking about who I am and how I can improve as a human being.  Because of the knowledge I obtained here at PFEW, I am extremely excited to begin my journey as a business man.  I learned to take risks, and to learn from failure.  I learned that the definition of success is subjective, and I can be incredibly happy even if I don’t make hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.  This experience is truly life changing, and I encourage you to sponsor other kids and give them the same experience that I was fortunate enough to have thanks to you.  Thank you again for allowing me to have this amazing experience, and I wish you well in all of  your endeavors.

Sincerely,
Noah Wolfenson

Dear Mr Sheffer,
I want to thank you for the great opportunity that you have given me, through your donation.  When I first signed up for this camp, I was slightly skeptical.  I had never heard of a business camp before, so I did not know what to expect.  Now that the end of the week is approaching, I could not be more grateful for my experience.  PFEW has taught me many valuable business skills, and also life skills.   Your donations allow kids to have a life changing experience, so I thank you for that.  These skills I have learned will certainly help me in the future, and especially for a career in business.  I hope you continue to donate, because you are changing lives.

Sincerely
Patrick Curry
