Speaker: Tammy Schoonver, Bucks County Opportunity Council, will present "Poverty in Bucks County."
Tammy has built a successful career and strong reputation for serving Bucks County since joining Bucks County Opportunity Council (BCOC) in 1996. In addition to her current position, Tammy has served as Director of Training for BCOC and prior to that, she was the Program Director for Self-Sufficiency Services. She was instrumental in creating BCOC’s first self-sufficiency graduation ceremony in 1997. Tammy is considered a leader in anti-poverty education in the county. Tammy earned a training certification for “Bridges Out of Poverty,” a nationally recognized anti-poverty curriculum in 2007 and has trained over a thousand people from church congregations, volunteers, and non-profit staff throughout Bucks County. Tammy is a licensed Social Worker and holds a Masters’ Degree in Social Work from Marywood University in Scranton and a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern University. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. In addition to her time at BCOC, Tammy has been practicing in the field of social work since 1986 with previous professional experience in child welfare. Tammy also received the “Women Who Make A Difference” Award by the YWCA of Bucks County in 2005.

Event Host Policy for Private Business Establishments
The Newtown Business Association (NBA) is a private Pennsylvania not-for-profit organization formed to promote the growth of commerce in Newtown and the vicinity. It is the express policy of the NBA that NBA sponsored events hosted in private business establishments shall be free of political speech of any kind including distribution of literature, circulation of petitions, or other political campaign activity. Events hosted by private establishments are not public fora under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution even if “open to the public.” By agreeing to host an NBA sponsored event, the host agrees to adhere to the foregoing policy and to prohibit political speech at the event in consideration for the publicity and promotion of its business in connection with the event.
